The Neighbors of Trollskull Alley
Who would have thought owning property would be such an adventure?
I am not quite sure why we never did it. In all our years of living in Waterdeep, despite all the gold, and fame, and connections...we never did put down roots. The Doom Raiders ever were a nomadic bunch. Sure, we made friends at the various inns, I know I never wanted for a place to stay...and the others did fine as well. But an actual, dare I say it, home?
Perhaps they will just hold onto it for a short time, sell it at a profit and move on. I can't imagine living with the rest of my band. The Doom Raiders were great friends to be sure, but roomates...camping together was enough. Maybe for the Shepherds it will be different. They lived together in Nightstone after all. And, it is a rather large manor...I suppose there is room enough for them with some to spare.
A couple of them have even mentioned renovating the bar and running it as a tavern. It seems Durnan has rubbed off on them already! But doing something like that will take an investment, and that means money, and that means...I don't know...rumors of a half-million gold dragons is tempting. Were I alive...corporeal...in a body...whatever, were I in a state to adventure I think it would be tempting to see what could be done to get my hands on some of those dragons. Of course, that is what every other adventurer, guild member, and ne'er do well in Waterdeep who has heard those rumors is probably thinking as well.
But it can't be easy. If it was, someone else would have done it already. It must be hidden, and likely protected to boot. I don't know by what but if I had a half a million dragons I could afford to spend a few on some pretty impressive guards...
Anyway, enough daydreaming about living the life of luxury...if Rene has anything to say about it I am sure he would want it all returned to the city anyways...but he probably can't do this on his own...not with the guilds after him. And if someone else were to help out, there would have to be some sort of reward I would think...even a fraction of that could...
Ok, daydreaming again...where were we? Oh yes, Trollskull Manor. Interesting neighborhood to say for sure. Oh the half elf and the Genasi seem nice enough, I wasn't there for the wood elf but what can one say about druids and their ilk...But the private detective? Since when is that a job? I mean, I have of course heard of paying for information. But setting up shop and advertising that on your door? It sure seems like a recipe for disaster! Still, it could be useful. Especially with Yagra sniffing around offering jobs like this one to stalk some would be assassin...or is it a has been assassin? No, that makes it sound like they aren't assassinating anymore. What would you call an assassin, who has assassinned, who is planning on assassinning again but won't if you stop them?
This is why I told stories instead of writing them...it is much easier to just breeze on by the small stuff. Give them a smile and a wink and just keep the story rolling.
Rolling right up to a noble house that is apparently so thankful for the return of their family portrait they want to extend a job to "introduce" them to the person who stole it in the first place? I am not sure that would be strictly legal...if one were so inclined to find a thief, one would normally bring them to the watch...but I suppose bringing a criminal to the Cassalanters is sort of like bringing them to justice. They are just a noble family after all...its not like Lady Cassalanter would eat them or anything.
Anyway, first things first, find the assassin, stop the assassin, get paid. Sounds so simple! Whatever could go wrong. Oh yes...Waterdeep.
