The Three NPCs in Nightstone

There are about a dozen families in Nightstone you may know or have interacted with before play.  Three primary NPCs exist and you should try and connect yourself to at least one of them in your backstory.  You should determine who you are living with in Nightstone, whether you have grown up there, or if you have only been there the last year.

Town of Nightstone

Nightstone was a fortified settlement located near the Ardeep Forest, in the hills between Waterdeep and Daggerford. It was connected to the High Road via a side trail and is roughly a full day's travel to Waterdeep.

Nightstone was built on the Ardeep River and consists of a fenced island connected to an artificial motte that holds the village's keep (mostly vacant). Its name derives from a mysterious obsidian obelisk in the center of the village that has strange glyphs carved into it and emanates a magic aura.

Over the years, the villagers of Nightstone have had bad relationships with the wood elves who inhabited the Ardeep Forest. Sometime after the War of the Silver Marches, the village was bombarded by a cloud giant floating castle which killed many inhabitants and forced the survivors to escape into nearby caves outside the village.

Currently about a dozen families live in or near Nightstone, including those of the characters. Most of the families live within the fort walls in small homes and tend small fields, watched over by scarecrows that help keep the save from flying thieves. Larger fields surround the town, some used to farm for the town, others are used for grazing for livestock.


The Three Primary NPCs are:

Blacksmith- Rolf, Human, former Cleric of the Forge for an adventuring party known as the Doom Raiders.


10 years ago he retired from the Doom Raiders and relocated to Nightsone. While he has given up his adventuring days he still delights in reminiscing about the good old days and seeing what the next generation will have to offer. He loves to tell stories about the Doom Raiders and other adventuring bands. He has likely been the person to train you over the last year in whatever combat/adventuring skills you have picked up so far.


Tavern/General Store- Montgomery, a halfling free spirit who enjoys his own drink as much as his customers.


Very open and friendly, of indeterminate age, and speaks very seldom of his past but enjoys hearing about the exploits of others.  While he is a former adventurer, he speaks very little about his past, preferring to focus on the present and the individual he is talking to.



Sherriff- Ilandra Moonshadow, a Wood Elf Druid who keeps Nightstone safe from harm.


She stays in a ruined keep in Nightstone, somewhat apart from the townsfolk. She leaves twice a year to go deep into the woods during each solstice and the Townsfolk let their hair down in her absence.
